Our State Government & Get Involved!

      Throughout chapter nine we have learned all about government. We focused on the different levels of government (National, State/Tribal, Local) and the three branches of government (Executive, Legislative, Judicial) and their duties. Taking what you know from chapter nine, answer these document based questions.

1. Using Source 1: Look at the pyramid that shows the levels of government. How many levels are there and which of those levels specifically govern you?

2. Using Sources 1 & 2: Look at the different government leaders. Which level of government do each one of them fall into?

3. Using Sources 2 & 3: In what ways do these different government leaders, and their levels of government, have influence over the counties in Colorado?

4. Using Sources 4 & 5: Look at the three branches of government in Source 4. Using the list in Source 5, sort the jobs and positions into three groups: Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch.

5. Think about what you've learned about government and how it works. What are some things that you can do to be involved in government?

1. Using Source 1: Sort and group the topics on the list into the three resource categories: Natural, Human, and Capital. Your list must include at least five topics in each group. 

2. Using Source 2: Select two pictures, one must be a good, the other must be a service. Then, explain why they are a good or service and how they might be used in everyday life. 

3. Using Source 3: Identify and list the positive incentives that are included in the picture collage in source three. Choose one and describe a real life situation where that positive incentive could be used.

4. Using Source 3: Identify and list the negative incentives that are included in the picture collage in source three. Choose one and describe the opportunity cost that would be involved in you receiving that negative incentive.

3. Using Source 3: Describe one way the Moffat Tunnel provided more opportunities for people in the state. Explain your reasoning.

4. Using Sources 4 & 5: Which Colorado region was most greatly affected by the Dust Bowl in the 1930s? What industry would have made situations in the dust bowl worse? Give details t support why.

1. Using Source 1: After reading through the diary of the gold seeker, what is your opinion about life as an early settler or prospector in Colorado? Use text support or citations to support your answer.

2. Using Source 2: Looking at the picture collage, describe how the Pikes Peak gold rush affected the people, physical features, and industries in Colorado.

3. Using Source 3: Describe how settler and Native American interactions changed in Colorado over time. 

4. Using Sources 3 & 4: History is retold from many different points of view. What opinions did the settlers and Native Americans have about Colorado, the land, and it's people? How are the settler's and Native American's opinions the same or different?

5. Using Source 4: Evaluate the historic points of view of the Colorado settlers and Native Americans. How are the points of view of Colorado citizens and Native Americans the same or different in modern Colorado?
